SCANNING

Scanning is a technique which most of us often use when looking up a word in the telephone book or dictionary as the teacher said, even if I’m searching for key words or ideas. In most cases I need to be concentrated on finding a particular answer. Scanning is really helpful for me because in this way I find quickly specific words and phrases. Scanning is also useful when I first find a resource to determine whether it will answer my questions as in the exercise I done. I have used it when I had had a type of reading comprehension test where you have to look for the particular answer. It doesn’t matter if you know something else about the topic or not you must be concentrated on the specific matter. When you don’t want to waste time looking for something you are interested in, Scanning is the best technique you can use.

Have a nice day!

SKIM FOR GIST

Well the term “the skim for gist” method wasn’t known by me, but the action is something that I always have done. In my daily activities I have not only to skim otherwise,  reread is also important to have a great comprehension of what  I’m reading about. I mean, the ability to understand and use the information in the texts is key to a success in comprehension and learning. I think that it depends on the purpose of reading the technique you are going to use for. If I am exploring or reviewing I have to skim a reading, but sometimes specially in my job I have to understand very well what I’m talking about, so I have to reread all the information two or three times for a better comprehension. And when I only need to take a simple extract from a document or journal the skimming helps me to identify the main idea of something because I do it faster than a normal reading or when I have lots of material to read in a limited amount of time and when I want to see if something may be of a great interest in my work. For me “the skim for gist” is a great tool to improve my reading. Is it the same to read on a computer than on paper?

VIDEO OF PLASTIC SURGERY

VIDEO OF PLASTIC SURGERY

Hello everybody, this is a sample of what I do everyday.  Let me tell you that Plastic Surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the correction or restoration of form and function. While famous for a esthetic surgery, plastic surgery also includes many types of reconstructive surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. It's a big responsability because people who want to change their appearance, have to know that there are some hazardous actions and it could have bad consequences if they don't follow the right treatment or even if they see the wrong people, but on the other hand, I have to tell you that it's interesting to realize how important the appearance is for most people, because it seems that it's part of  their selfsteem, and I'm sure that this kind of surgeries chage completely their way of living, but they must be really sure to give the first step. The most prevalent aesthetic/cosmetic procedures include:
  • Abdominoplasty ("tummy tuck"): reshaping and firming of the abdomen
  • Blepharoplasty ("eyelid surgery"): reshaping of the eyelids or the application of permanent eyeliner, including Asian blepharoplasty
  • Phalloplasty
    • Breast augmentations ("breast implant" or "boob job"): augmentation of the breasts by means of fat grafting, saline, or silicone gel prosthetics, which was initially performed to women with micromastia
    • Reduction mammoplasty ("breast reduction"): removal of skin and glandular tissue, which is done to reduce back and shoulder pain in women with gigantomastia and/or for psychological benefit men with gynecomastia
    • Mastopexy ("breast lift"): Lifting or reshaping of breasts to make them less saggy, often after weight loss (after a pregnancy, for example). It involves removal of breast skin as opposed to glandular tissue
  • Buttock augmentation ("butt implant"): enhancement of the buttocks using silicone implants or fat grafting ("Brazilian butt lift") and transfer from other areas of the body
